Lyrics
Impossible
story behind the song
Inspired by a passage from Walking on Water by Madeline L'Engle
Luke 1:26-38, Luke 9:28-36, Acts 1: 6-11, Luke 24:50-53
If I were on that mountaintop
All those years ago,
Staring at the shining face
Of One I'd come to know,
Watching as He spoke
To the great people of old,
Would I be like Peter?
Would I stumble on my words?
Would I rejoice in the impossible
Or just call it absurd?
And if I were at Bethany
Listening to what He said,
If I watched Him disappear
Into the clouds overhead,
Would I look for what I could not see,
Would I just stand and stare?
Or would I run into the temple
And praise the God who rules the air?
And if I were the young girl,
If the angel spoke to me,
If he said I'd be the mother
To the prince of Peace
Would I look at the impossible
And would I just say no
Or would I hear the angel's words,
Would I believe, would I know,
That nothing is impossible
When God is in control?
Would I trust?
Would I know?
Would I hope?
O, God of Miracles,
Please strengthen my faith.
Help me see that impossible
Is just a reason to praise,
For if You only did the possible,
I would never know Your grace.
