Lyrics
Safe
When I thought that Your plan
Was something others called "safe",
I was willing to trust,
I was willing to take
A chance and believe
That somehow I'd be
Where You wanted me.
I had this road mapped,
I knew where it would go,
I thought I would be happy,
So I was willing to follow
The twists and the turns
'Til I got it all learned,
'Til I was "safe" and "secure".
Still I prayed
That You would show me Your way,
That I would follow Your plan
No matter where it led.
You took my world and turned it
Upside-down,
Took my so-called dreams and let them
Fall to the ground.
And what I'm doing now
Is anything but "safe",
For You never promised
I'd earn my living this way,
But it's all I want to do,
It's something I want to see through,
It's the path that I would choose.
Then my heart hears the words
Of the world and its lies,
It begins to long for "safe",
It begins to run and hide
In a silly piece of paper,
Covered in some silly words,
That promises a steady paycheck
And the "safety" of this world.
So how do I know
Where You want me to go,
Who You want me to be,
What You want me to see?
I want to tell Your story,
I want to do this Your way.
Will You teach me what it really,
Really means to be Safe?
